Canteen Management

A canteen committee is responsible for monitoring the operations of the canteen and implementing and reviewing the canteen policy. They may also be responsible for specific decisions as specified in the canteen policy, such as employing staff, authorising major purchases, or authorising changes in the menu.

A canteen policy is a formal document developed by the canteen committee and endorsed by the school community. The canteen policy sets out the aims of the canteen and guidelines for its operation within the school. The canteen policy is for both the school community itself (since it explains what the canteen is trying to achieve) and for the canteen manager and staff (since it explains what is expected from them).

Surveys

Gathering information from your school community about the school canteen is an important step to ensuring you are providing a nutritious food service that meets everyone’s needs. This process will help find out what people think and want from the canteen and therefore allow you to plan the menu and activities to meet these needs. It also raises awareness of the canteen and will gain support from students, parents and teachers about the changes you are going to make.

Lunch Crates

I am looking at replacing our lunch crates. We currently use 28litre plastic 'toy' boxes, but these have a very short life, splitting and breaking very easily.
