Healthy Kids - Business Advisory Service

Healthy Kids Business Advisory Service for School Canteens

The success of a school canteen is more than the food it prepares, packages and serves to the children. It is a set of practices, which allow for a variety of healthy foods to be prepared at a good price and delivered without incurring a financial loss. The changing nature of food and the loss of volunteer staff have increased the costs of running a healthy school canteen.

Implementing and following good business practices will assist in ensuring the profitability of the school canteen. Successfully managing a school canteen business requires specific management skills in addition to knowledge of key business practices.

Healthy Kids, through the new Business Advisory Service, will assist those responsible for operating the canteen with understanding the business practices required - record keeping, stock control, marketing basics, setting prices, buying right, controlling waste and a lot more. The service will visit schools between 8.30am and 5pm only.

All requests for business assistance must be put in writing using the Canteen Business Assistance Form. The inquiry needs to have the approval of the President of the parent body for parent body operated canteens, the Principal for school run canteens or the lessee for leased canteens. For more information call 98761300 or email info@healthy-kids.com.au.
