Go 4 Grains Kids Design Challenge

The Go 4 Grains Kids Design Challenge commences in Term 3. The Challenge will teach students about the importance of eating ‘4+ serves a day’ of grain based foods, consistent with Australian Dietary Guidelines.

Year 5 and 6 students will create an advertising campaign to promote this message to their peers while Year 7 and 8 will develop a grain based product and supporting advertising campaign to appeal to their peers.

To help promote the benefits of grains, this year farmers will visit a selection of schools entering the challenge to educate students on farm life and the production of grains. As part of grain education, sample bags of 3 common grains grown in Australia will be distributed to participating schools for the students to identify.

A great way to get your canteen involved with this challenge is to promote grains in menu specials and existing items for sale. Getting your canteen involved is easy! Healthy Kids Association has created a resource kit for school canteens who wish to participate in the Go 4 Grains Kids Design Challenge. There are loads of great participation ideas, a promotional poster and colouring-in competition.
