The Board of Directors Elected  for 2008-2009:

Gary Moore

Gary Moore joins the Board of Directors as the Association's new Chairperson. In addition to a long line of academic credentials such as a BA (majors in Sociology and Political Science), Bachelor of Social Work (major in Community Work) and a Masters in Management (Community Management), Gary has a wealth of experience in a range of senior positions.

Currently the Director of Community Services at Marrickville Council, Gary leads the strategic direction and overall management of the Community Services division.

Past experience also includes Director, Council of Social Service of NSW (NCOSS), Project Director, Strengthening Local Communities, and senior positions at NSW Premier’s Department, NSW Social Policy Directorate, Ministry of Employment and Eastern Suburbs Community Youth Association

Gary's committee and voluntary activities have involved over 17 organisations and charities. We are very privileged to welcome aboard such an experienced and knowledgeable chairperson

Kim Dwyer has already served on the Board for two terms. Her year as president of the Association saw the restructuring of the Board to its present skills-based membership, which has allowed the Association to grow in membership and influence. Kim worked for nine years as a canteen volunteer at her children’s school before becoming the Canteen Manager at Ourimbah Public School, where she has seen that the eating habits and attitudes of students can be improved. Kim has proven to be an honest and trustworthy canteen manager and a team player. She regularly attends her local canteen network meetings and has been able to advise new canteen managers on a range of issues.

Anne Hills has had two terms on the Board as Secretary and has the enthusiasm and experience to help guide it though the next two years. Anne is a Community Nutritionist, working mostly on child and adolescent health programmes. She also co-ordinates several school canteen networks and has been an Association award adjudicator. Anne is Chair of the Hunter New England Area Health School Canteen Taskforce and is also a parent volunteer at her local school canteen. She therefore is well placed to provide insight into how canteens are operating in relation to the NSW Government’s Healthy School Canteen Strategy and the problems faced by small school communities in rural and remote regions.

Christine May has had one term on the Board. Christine has worked as a Health Promotion Officer on the far south coast for 20 years, establishing and facilitating canteen network meetings, sitting on selection panels for canteen managers, providing one on one support to canteen managers and establishing partnerships with other agencies to promote nutritional health priorities. Christine’s professional and volunteer experience has helped her develop a deep respect for the hard work and commitment of canteen managers, volunteers and committees. As president of her local primary school’s P&C Association, Christine guided the canteen through the process of establishing a healthy menu, and developing policy. Christine has also been president of her local high school P&C, has volunteered for many years with the Federation of P&C Associations and is their representative on the NSW Fresh Tastes Healthy School Canteen Advisory Committee.

Mia Sadler has held the role of treasurer with the Association for the past two years. She is involved with her children’s school, both as a canteen volunteer and in providing parents with nutrition advice. As Managing Director of a major nutrition consultancy, Mia is committed to supporting and improving childhood and adolescent health and nutrition. She has worked with several food manufacturers to ensure that wherever possible their products meet the Association’s green criteria and been able to provide comment during the development of the criteria. Mia is a member of the Marketing Advisory Committee for the Dietitians Association of Australia and a board member for Sports Dietitians Australia.
