The Canteen Manager
A Canteen Manager is responsible for operating the canteen in accordance with the canteen policy. Some canteens have a volunteer canteen manager and some canteens employ a paid manager. Since the canteen manager is vital to the success of the canteen, it is worth spending time finding the right person for the position. The following qualities and skills are often found in successful canteen managers:
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Fresh Tastes @ School NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy.
- Good communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- Statement of Attainment for the TAFE NSW School Canteen Strategy Course (or a willingness to work towards).
- Statement of Attainment for the TAFE Workplace Hygiene (Food Handlers) Course or equivalent (or a willingness to work towards).
- Demonstrated understanding of nutrition and the ability to prepare and promote healthy foods.
- Demonstrated experience in school canteen management.
- Demonstrated financial experience in school canteens.
- Ability to use basic computer software such as Word and Excel.
