Tips for Running a Successful Theme Day

Planning theme days is so much easier if you PLAN AHEAD. To help you with the planning of your theme day, here are a few things you should be thinking about next.

1. Get in touch with the TEACHERS at your school to find out if they would like to be involved in your theme day promotions. Remember, teachers can be a great help in getting students to help plan and promote the day. Teachers also plan ahead, so get in touch with them as soon as you can.

2. Plan a MENU. Have a brainstorming session with your volunteers to think up healthy and interesting meal ideas. Decide if you are going to do something at recess, lunch or both. Keep it simple, healthy and good value for money. Some schools get the classes to think up names related to a theme that could describe a meal deal or food. For example, one school named a strawberry milkshake a 'blood transfusion'.

3. Think of how you could PROMOTE the day - make it FUN. Decide on a catchy name and ways you are going to promote the day to students and staff. Once again, involving the teachers and students can make this job a lot easier for you. Classes can help you by making up posters, meal tickets and catchy names for foods. You could even run a competition for students to name the foods you plan to promote.
